Mt. Washington Record Bike Setup — 47:19

47:19. Over two minutes faster than Danielson’s 49:24 from 2002, which was later stripped for doping. This climb has a long history of top pros coming over fresh off the Tour — careers were made here. I’d wanted to do it for years and finally showed up this August, first time on the mountain, with a full-time job and a 10.8 lb bike.

7.6 miles, 4,700 feet. Averages 12%, goes to 18% for long stretches, finishes with a 22% wall. Here’s everything on the bike.

Darimo IX2 stem, 122g. Ellipse bar, flat-top, 40cm, 89g. The T1 Loop seatpost gets to 82g because it uses Dyneema loops instead of a metal clamp head — two loops around the saddle rails, tighten against barrel nuts. Sounds like something that shouldn’t work. It does. Schmolke shifter clamps are carbon replacements for the stock Shimano aluminum bands. 7g. That’s it.

THM Clavicula SE Power, 337g with a power meter. I’ve had creak issues with the compression system on training builds — bad enough that I’ve pulled it mid-ride. But for one day on a dry road I’ll take the risk. 34/34 gearing. The ZTTO cassette will probably creak by next week. Every one I’ve owned has. Today it doesn’t matter.
